Cupping

Cupping treatment

What is Chinese cupping?

Chinese cupping is one of the best deep-tissue therapies available. It works by using suction to create upward pressure on the skin and the underlying tissue. The treatment lasts from 10 to 30 minutes and can be had on its own or in combination with massage or acupuncture to enhance their effectiveness.

What does cupping do?

Cupping helps to relieve pain and promote healing by clearing stagnation, increasing the blood flow, reducing swelling and stimulating the lymphatic system. Cupping therapy can be very beneficial for treating back and neck pain, stiff muscles, arthritis, migraines, recovery form injury, chest congestion and even cellulite. Cupping can also be used to treat skin problems including acne, psoriasis, shingles and eczema.

Please note that taking a shower right after cupping treatment is not recommended. Wait for couple of hours so the skin has time to settle and pores to close.

Does cupping mark the skin?

Some people may experience red marks on their skin after cupping treatment. This indicates, that cupping has successfully drawn out harmful pathogens and toxins from deep underneath the skin by stimulating the area with fresh blood and oxygen.

The marks will gradually disappear when the natural healing process is complete. If the marks are very light, they should disappear within few hours. If they are dark red, the healing can take more than a week and multiple cupping sessions may be needed to remove all toxins and stagnation.

Please inform Dr. Wu if you suffer form hernia, varicose veins, hepatitis A, skin ulcer or very sensitive skin, as in some cases cupping may not be advised.
