What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is comprehensive system of medicine including acupuncture, herbal medicine, massage, exercise and nutrition. It’s origins date back to over 3000 years and today, it is one of the most widely practiced alternative therapies in the world.

TCM can offer effective treatment for many of our most common ailments including chronic pain, allergies, unexplained infertility and migraines. In comparison to western medical practice, which can offer powerful medicines to alleviate symptoms, TCM focuses on the root causes of illness together with any physical discomfort that may be present.

TCM is also very good at treating general aches and pains, that have no obvious cause and thus no prescriptive cure.

In the case of a serious condition, such as cancer or stroke, where western medicine is essential, TCM offers a range complementary therapies that can reduce the side effects of medication and help bring our bodies back to balance and good heath.

What to expect on your first visit?

On your first visit to YUNJI clinic, Dr Wu will make a diagnosis of your current condition based on your health history, symptoms and her own assessment. If you have any relevant medical test results, bring them with you.

The initial consultation and treatment takes about an hour or more, depending on the treatment. You may also be prescribed herbal medicine.

When using TCM, we recommend that you:

  •  Do not use TCM to replace effective conventional care or as a reason to postpone seeing a health care provider about a medical problem.
  • Tell your health care provider about any complementary health approaches you use. This will help ensure coordinated and safe care.
